Halftime Report - Houston 41, Creighton 39

Coming into this game, we knew we were going to have a clash of opposing styles and the key is going to be which team's philosophy wins out. So far in the first half, we have what the score represents: a little of both. Obviously, 41-38 is scoring at a higher clip than the Jays generally play. However, Creighton did some very nice things during that first period. CU has been able to play a very active zone which has made Houston work the ball far more deliberately than they are comfortable doing. Offensively, for the most part we have avoided the temptation to run and gun with Houston and have done a fairly good job of dictating tempo. Also, being over 50% from the field is quite a pleasant surprise considering the way we have shot the ball this year.

That said, we need to be more active preventing the Cougars from getting on the offensive glass. The big men for Houston are tall and long and are strong at keeping the ball alive and creating second and third chances for their high octane offense. Also, while it's great to be 6/10 from the arc, we still need to avoid getting too three happy against this team.

It was a well played half by both teams. If the Jays can stay disciplined, run their sets, stay active on defense and continue to make the Cougars work on each possession, they are in a good position.
